NCT07825740

Brief Summary

This study aims to investigate whether the time of day at which acute exercise is performed influences physical performance and acute hormonal and biochemical responses in healthy young male soccer players. Participants will complete the same standardized exercise protocol in the morning (08:00-09:30) and evening (17:00-18:30), with a 96-hour interval between sessions. Performance will be assessed using vertical jump and Yo-Yo shuttle run tests. Blood samples will be collected before exercise, immediately after exercise, and two hours after exercise to assess testosterone, cortisol, creatine kinase, AST, ALT, LDH, and troponin levels. The study will examine whether exercise responses differ between morning and evening sessions and whether these differences are consistent with circadian variation.

Outcome Measures

Primary Outcomes (1)

  • Yo-Yo Shuttle Run Performance

Change in endurance performance measured by the Yo-Yo shuttle run test following the standardized acute exercise protocol performed in the morning and evening.

Immediately after completion of the exercise performance assessment during each experimental session.

Secondary Outcomes (8)

  • Vertical Jump Performance

    Baseline (pre-exercise), immediately post-exercise, and 2 hours post-exercise.

  • Serum Testosterone Concentration

    Baseline (pre-exercise), immediately post-exercise, and 2 hours post-exercise.

  • Serum Cortisol Concentration

    Baseline (pre-exercise), immediately post-exercise, and 2 hours post-exercise.

  • Serum Creatine Kinase (CK) Concentration

    Baseline (pre-exercise), immediately post-exercise, and 2 hours post-exercise.

  • Serum Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) Concentration

    Baseline (pre-exercise), immediately post-exercise, and 2 hours post-exercise.

  • +3 more secondary outcomes

Study Arms (1)

Healthy Male Soccer Players

EXPERIMENTAL

Healthy male soccer players participated in a single-group intervention study. All participants completed the same standardized acute exercise protocol twice, once in the morning (08:00-09:30) and once in the evening (17:00-18:30), separated by 96 hours. Performance tests (vertical jump and Yo-Yo shuttle run) and blood samples were obtained before exercise, immediately after exercise, and 2 hours after exercise to evaluate hormonal and biochemical responses.

Behavioral: Standardized Acute Exercise Protocol

Interventions

Participants completed a standardized acute exercise protocol consisting of a vertical jump test and a Yo-Yo shuttle run endurance test. The protocol was performed twice, once in the morning (08:00-09:30) and once in the evening (17:00-18:30), with a 96-hour washout period between sessions. Blood samples were collected before exercise, immediately after exercise, and 2 hours after exercise to assess hormonal (testosterone and cortisol) and biochemical (CK, AST, ALT, LDH, and troponin) responses.
