NCT07673796

Brief Summary

This retrospective cohort study will evaluate burn patients hospitalized and treated at the Burn Center of Gaziantep City Hospital between October 2023 and June 2026. The study aims to compare demographic characteristics, burn severity, clinical course, and in-hospital outcomes between Turkish citizens and foreign-national burn patients. Data will be obtained retrospectively from patient files, discharge summaries, intensive care records, operative notes, and the hospital information management system. Variables will include age, sex, nationality status, burn etiology, total body surface area burned, inhalation injury, sepsis, intensive care unit admission, mechanical ventilation requirement, surgical treatment requirement, number of operations, length of hospital stay, discharge status, transfer to another center, and in-hospital mortality. No additional intervention, diagnostic test, treatment, or follow-up procedure will be performed as part of this study. All analyses will be conducted using anonymized or coded retrospective clinical data.

Outcome Measures

Primary Outcomes (1)

  • In-hospital mortality

In-hospital mortality will be evaluated as death occurring during the index hospitalization for burn injury. The frequency of in-hospital mortality will be compared between Turkish citizen burn patients and foreign-national burn patients.

From hospital admission to hospital discharge, transfer to another center, or death, assessed retrospectively up to September 2026.

Secondary Outcomes (3)

  • Intensive care unit admission

During the index hospitalization for burn injury, assessed retrospectively up to September 2026.

  • Mechanical ventilation requirement

During the index hospitalization for burn injury, assessed retrospectively up to September 2026.

  • Burn severity scores

At hospital admission or based on initial clinical records, assessed retrospectively up to September 2026.

Study Arms (2)

Turkish Citizen Burn Patients

Burn patients who were hospitalized and treated at the Burn Center of Gaziantep City Hospital and were classified as citizens of the Republic of Türkiye according to hospital records. Data will be collected retrospectively from routine medical records. No intervention will be assigned by the investigators.

Foreign-National Burn Patients

Burn patients who were hospitalized and treated at the Burn Center of Gaziantep City Hospital and were classified as foreign-national patients according to hospital records. Data will be collected retrospectively from routine medical records. No intervention will be assigned by the investigators.
