Actual (reported)This retrospective observational study examines whether troponin levels measured before surgery are associated with acute kidney injury during the first 48 hours after surgery in patients admitted to intensive care after noncardiac surgery. Troponin is a protein measured in blood that can indicate heart muscle injury. Acute kidney injury is a sudden decline in kidney function. Existing medical records from 224 patients who underwent emergency or elective surgery will be reviewed. Kidney injury will be assessed using changes in blood creatinine levels and the need for dialysis or other kidney replacement therapy. The study will also examine changes in troponin levels around surgery, length of stay, and survival during hospitalization. No additional tests or treatments are performed for this study.

Actual (reported)Acute Kidney Injury Within 48 Hours After Surgery
Occurrence of acute kidney injury, defined by an increase in serum creatinine of at least 0.3 mg/dL within 48 hours, an increase to at least 1.5 times the preoperative baseline within the observed 48-hour period, or initiation of renal replacement therapy. Assessment uses the serum creatinine and renal replacement therapy components of KDIGO criteria. Urine output criteria are not used because reliable retrospective data are unavailable.
From completion of surgery through 48 hours postoperatively.
Severity of Acute Kidney Injury Within 48 Hours After Surgery
From completion of surgery through 48 hours postoperatively.
Patients admitted to intensive care after emergency or elective noncardiac surgery who had preoperative troponin measurements and postoperative kidney function data available in their medical records. This retrospective cohort includes 224 patients. Patients with chronic kidney disease are included. No intervention was assigned as part of the study.
Adults aged 18 years or older who were admitted to the intensive care unit at Ankara Training and Research Hospital after emergency or elective noncardiac surgery and had preoperative troponin measurements and postoperative kidney function data available in their medical records. The retrospective cohort comprises 224 unique patients, including patients with chronic kidney disease.
