Actual (reported)The goal of this randomized clinical trial is to learn whether adding elastic resistance training (ERT) to routine physical exercise can improve walking speed in older adults aged 60 years or older with sarcopenia living at Griya Wreda Jambangan, Surabaya. Sarcopenia is identified according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) 2019 criteria. The main questions it aims to answer are:

Actual (reported)Change in Walking Speed
Walking speed is measured in meters per second using a stopwatch on a 10-meter level walkway. The first 2 meters are used for acceleration and the final 2 meters for deceleration. The time required to walk the middle 6 meters at the participant's usual comfortable walking speed is recorded, and walking speed is calculated in meters per second.
Baseline and 8 weeks after the intervention period
Participants in this arm continue the routine physical exercise program provided at Griya Wreda Jambangan and receive additional elastic resistance training twice per week on nonconsecutive days for 8 weeks. Each elastic resistance training session lasts approximately 30-45 minutes and includes warm-up, progressive resistance exercises for the upper and lower extremities, and cool-down. Exercises include seated chest press, seated row, seated shoulder press, standing hip abduction, standing hip adduction, seated leg press, and standing leg curl. Resistance is progressively increased according to the participant's exercise capacity and perceived exertion.
Participants in this arm continue the routine physical exercise program provided at Griya Wreda Jambangan without additional elastic resistance training for 8 weeks. The routine physical exercise program consists primarily of aerobic and flexibility exercises performed at least three times per week for approximately 30 minutes per session.
Elastic resistance training is performed using elastic bands twice per week on nonconsecutive days for 8 weeks. Each session lasts approximately 30-45 minutes and includes warm-up, resistance exercises, and cool-down. Exercises include seated chest press, seated row, seated shoulder press, standing hip abduction, standing hip adduction, seated leg press, and standing leg curl. Each exercise is performed for 3 sets of 10-20 repetitions at moderate intensity (OMNI-RES rating of perceived exertion 4-6), with 30-60 seconds of rest between sets. Resistance is progressively increased when the participant can complete 20 repetitions at the target perceived exertion.

Routine physical exercise is the existing exercise program provided at Griya Wreda Jambangan. The program consists primarily of aerobic and flexibility exercises performed at least three times per week for approximately 30 minutes per session throughout the 8-week study period. The program includes warm-up exercises, stretching and mobility exercises, aerobic movements, and cool-down activities.
