Brief Summary

This study investigates the impact of task-oriented basketball training on physical fitness and upper extremity endurance in school children aged 9-12 in Lahore. Using a randomized controlled trial, one group receives task-specific training while the other gets basic training. Outcomes like upper limb function, endurance, and overall fitness will be assessed over 8 weeks.

Primary Outcomes (1)

  • The Upper Extremity Function Scale

    The Upper Extremity Function Scale (UEFI) will be adapted to measure children's arm strength, endurance, and ability to do daily tasks. It is a reliable questionnaire that checks how difficult everyday activities are when using the arms and hands. The scale has 20 questions, each scored from 0 (very difficult) to 4 (no difficulty), with a total score of 80 meaning full function. The tool will be tested on a small group first and then used before and after the training program to see any improvements. Basketball Training & Upper Body Endurance In Children

EXPERIMENTAL

An 8-week task-oriented basketball training program was conducted 3 times weekly for 60 minutes per session in school.

Device: Medicine Ball Throw/Basket Ball

Without Basket Ball Training

ACTIVE COMPARATOR

Participants continued with regular classroom activities and standard physical educatio classes without any intervention.

Interventions

The Medicine Ball Throw Test is used to measure upper body strength and power, especially in the arms, chest, and shoulders. It checks muscle performance by measuring how far a person can throw a weighted ball.

You may qualify if:

  • Children aged 9-12 years.
  • No history of serious injuries or chronic health conditions.
  • Parental consent to participate.
  • Both genders will be included

You may not qualify if:

  • Any children with any other chronic neurological or medical condition. Specifically, children with Severe physical impairment Learning disability Below normal intelligence

Model Details: This randomized clinical trial will include 42 children aged 9-12 years from City School, Johar Town, Lahore. Participants will be randomly chosen and assigned to either a task-oriented basketball training group or a control group continuing regular physical education. The intervention will last 8 weeks, with assessments conducted pre- and post-intervention. The primary outcome will be measured using the Upper Extremity Functional Index (UEFI), while secondary outcomes include the medicine ball throw test, grip strength, agility, and flexibility.Data will be analyzed using SPSS version 27.0 to compare outcomes between groups.
