Brief Summary
In this research study we want to learn about new ways to use MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to take clearer pictures of the lungs. We will be using types of MRI called UTE (Ultra Short Echo Time) and bSSFP (balanced Steady-State Free Precession) as well as traditional MRI. We also want to collect images and health information about lungs that are healthy or those in people with different kinds of lung, muscular, and bone diseases. This collection will help us in the future to better understand lung variations in health and disease.

Outcome Measures
Primary Outcomes (2)
Develop, optimize, and validate of 1H MRI sequences for assessment of lung structure and function
Structural 1H MRI parameters such as relative 1H signal intensity and radiologists interpretation will be compared to retrospective clinical images to determine viability of 1H MRI to assess lung disease.
Through study completion, an average of 5 years
Generate preliminary bSSFP UTE 1H MRI data in healthy individuals and individuals with thoracic musculoskeletal disorders.
Free-breathing bSSFP UTE 1H MRI images will be compared to other conventional structural 1H MRI techniques and aspects like relative 1H signal between images will be compared.
Through study completion, an average of 5 years
Interventions
This intervention uses specialized MRI sequences, UTE and bSSFP, alongside traditional MRI to capture high-resolution images of lung structure and function. These sequences are optimized for imaging pulmonary tissues and airspaces, which is not typical in standard clinical MRI protocols. The study focuses on both healthy participants and those with lung, muscular, and bone diseases to evaluate variations in lung imaging.
Eligibility Criteria
We plan to enroll about 50 subjects with diagnosed respiratory and/or musculoskeletal disease and about 50 subjects with no diagnosed respiratory or musculoskeletal disease to serve as healthy controls. Participants will be recruited from the general population without restriction to a specific location or clinic.
You may qualify if:
- Age ≥ 5 years
You may not qualify if:
- History of any comorbidity reviewed at the Screening phone call that, in the opinion of the investigator, might confound the results of the study or pose an additional risk to the subject.
- Pregnancy
