Outcome Measures
Primary Outcomes (1)
Total Score on the Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior Counseling Competence Instrument
Professional competence will be assessed using a validated online instrument designed to measure knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to physical activity and sedentary behavior counseling among primary health care professionals. The instrument includes nine items related to physical activity counseling and nine items related to sedentary behavior counseling. For each domain, competence is assessed through three knowledge items, three skills items, and three attitude items. Most items are scored using 5-point Likert-type scales, while one knowledge item in each domain is objectively scored based on the correct answer. Separate total competence scores are calculated for physical activity counseling and sedentary behavior counseling, ranging from 8 to 44 points, with higher scores indicating greater competence. Domain-specific scores related to knowledge, skills, and attitudes may also be calculated separately.
Baseline, immediately after the intervention period, and 3 months after intervention completion
Study Arms (2)
Online Training Program
EXPERIMENTALParticipants in this arm will voluntarily enroll in a self-directed asynchronous online training program focused on physical activity and sedentary behavior counseling in primary health care. The program includes video lessons, written materials, and practical counseling strategies based on national and international guidelines.
Non-participation in Online Training
NO INTERVENTIONParticipants in this arm will be invited to participate in the online training program but will choose not to enroll or participate during the study period. These participants will complete the same assessment procedures for comparison purposes.
Interventions
A self-directed asynchronous online training program developed for primary health care professionals to improve competencies related to brief counseling on physical activity and sedentary behavior. The training includes short video lessons, written materials, and practical guidance based on World Health Organization recommendations and Brazilian national guidelines. Participants can access the content remotely through an online learning platform using computers, tablets, or smartphones. The program is structured into modules addressing physical activity, sedentary behavior, health outcomes, and counseling strategies applicable to primary health care settings.
