Brief Summary

This retrospective observational study aims to evaluate early marginal bone loss around dental implants using panoramic radiographs. Radiographic records of patients who underwent mandibular dental implant surgery and implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation will be reviewed. Marginal bone loss will be measured on the mesial and distal aspects of each implant at final restoration delivery and at follow-up periods after prosthetic loading. The study will also assess patient-, implant-, and prosthesis-related factors associated with marginal bone loss.

Outcome Measures

Primary Outcomes (1)

  • Change in Marginal Bone Loss Over Time

    Marginal bone loss will be assessed on panoramic radiographs by measuring the linear distance from the implant platform to the nearest supporting crestal bone on the mesial and distal aspects of each implant. Mesial, distal, and mean marginal bone loss values will be recorded in millimeters.

    At final restoration delivery, 6 months, 18 months, and 60 months after prosthetic loading

Dental Implant Patients

Patients with mandibular dental implants who had suitable panoramic radiographs for retrospective evaluation of marginal bone loss.

Study Population

The study population will consist of adult systemically healthy patients who underwent mandibular dental implant surgery and implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation at Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University Faculty of Dentistry between 2012 and 2025 and had suitable panoramic radiographs available for retrospective radiographic evaluation of marginal bone loss.

You may qualify if:

  • Individuals older than 18 years
  • Patients with mandibular dental implants
  • Availability of panoramic radiographs obtained after implant surgery and after prosthetic loading
  • Panoramic radiographs suitable for radiographic evaluation
  • Visibility of the mandibular inferior cortex and mental foramen on panoramic radiographs
  • Systemically healthy individuals

You may not qualify if:

  • Low-quality panoramic radiographs
  • Missing follow-up radiographs
  • Presence of systemic diseases or conditions that may affect bone metabolism
