Actual (reported)This study examined whether a practical post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) protocol using one heavy bench press repetition could improve subsequent bench press performance in resistance-trained young adults. Ten participants completed both a control condition and a PAPE condition in a randomized crossover design, with at least 72 hours between sessions. In the control condition, participants performed 8 repetitions at 60% of one-repetition maximum (1RM), rested for 4 minutes, and then completed two sets at 75% 1RM to technical failure with 3 minutes of rest between sets. In the PAPE condition, participants performed 8 repetitions at 60% 1RM, rested for 2 minutes, completed one repetition at 90% 1RM, rested for another 2 minutes, and then completed the same two performance sets at 75% 1RM. The primary outcome was the total number of repetitions completed across the two performance sets. Secondary outcomes included total volume load, repetitions in each set, and the decline in repetitions from the first to the second set. PAPE\_BMC\_FINAL\_TECHNICAL\_CHECK\_…

Actual (reported)Total Bench Press Repetitions
Total number of repetitions completed across two bench press performance sets performed at 75% of one-repetition maximum (1RM) to technical failure. Total repetitions were calculated as set 1 repetitions + set 2 repetitions.
Immediately post-intervention, during the subsequent two bench press performance sets (approximately 10 minutes).
Participants completed the control condition first and the PAPE condition second, with at least 72 hours between sessions.
Participants completed the PAPE condition first and the control condition second, with at least 72 hours between sessions.
Participants performed 8 bench press repetitions at 60% of one-repetition maximum (1RM), followed by 4 minutes of passive rest. They then completed two bench press sets at 75% 1RM to technical failure, with 3 minutes of passive rest between sets.
Participants performed 8 bench press repetitions at 60% 1RM, followed by 2 minutes of passive rest, one bench press repetition at 90% 1RM, and a further 2 minutes of passive rest. They then completed two bench press sets at 75% 1RM to technical failure, with 3 minutes of passive rest between sets.
