Brief Summary
This study evaluates the acute effects of resistance exercise-based post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) on basketball-specific cognitive-motor dual-task performance in male adolescent basketball players. Twenty-one basketball players aged 15 to 17 years complete three experimental conditions in a randomized crossover design: a standardized basketball warm-up, 5 repetitions of the back squat at 80% of individual one-repetition maximum (1RM), and 5 repetitions of the deadlift at 80% of individual 1RM. Each participant completes all three conditions with 48 hours between experimental sessions. Basketball-specific cognitive-motor dual-task performance is assessed before and after each condition using a task adapted from the NBA Draft Combine dribbling test that incorporates simultaneous motor responses to visual stimuli. The primary purpose is to compare the acute changes in performance following the two resistance exercise-based PAPE conditions with those following the standardized basketball warm-up.

Outcome Measures
Primary Outcomes (1)
Basketball-Specific Cognitive-Motor Dual-Task Performance
Performance was assessed using a cognitive-motor dual-task adapted from the NBA Draft Combine dribbling test. Participants completed the basketball-specific dribbling course while simultaneously responding to visual stimuli with corresponding motor responses. Performance was recorded as task completion time in seconds using an electronic timing system. A shorter completion time indicated better performance.
Immediately before and 3-5 minutes after each experimental condition
Study Arms (3)
Standardized Basketball Warm-Up
ACTIVE COMPARATORParticipants completed a standardized basketball warm-up condition. Basketball-specific cognitive-motor dual-task performance was assessed before the conditioning activity and again after the condition. This condition served as the active comparator for the two resistance exercise-based PAPE conditions.
Back Squat PAPE
EXPERIMENTALParticipants completed 5 repetitions of the back squat exercise at 80% of their individual one-repetition maximum (1RM) as a resistance exercise-based PAPE condition. Basketball-specific cognitive-motor dual-task performance was assessed before the conditioning activity and again after a 3-5-minute recovery period.
Deadlift PAPE
EXPERIMENTALParticipants completed 5 repetitions of the deadlift exercise at 80% of their individual one-repetition maximum (1RM) as a resistance exercise-based PAPE condition. Basketball-specific cognitive-motor dual-task performance was assessed before the conditioning activity and again after a 3-5-minute recovery period.
Interventions
Participants performed a standardized basketball warm-up as the active comparator condition. Basketball-specific cognitive-motor dual-task performance was assessed before the warm-up and again after completion of the condition.
Participants performed 5 repetitions of the back squat exercise at 80% of their individual one-repetition maximum (1RM) as a resistance exercise-based PAPE conditioning activity. Following the conditioning activity, participants completed a 3-5-minute recovery period before post-intervention assessment of basketball-specific cognitive-motor dual-task performance.
Participants performed 5 repetitions of the deadlift exercise at 80% of their individual one-repetition maximum (1RM) as a resistance exercise-based PAPE conditioning activity. Following the conditioning activity, participants completed a 3-5-minute recovery period before post-intervention assessment of basketball-specific cognitive-motor dual-task performance.
