Conditions
Outcome Measures
Primary Outcomes (1)
Mean total immediate recall score
The total immediate recall score was assessed using a structured recall checklist within 30 minutes after completion of the educational lectures.
Within 30 minutes after completion of the educational lectures
Secondary Outcomes (2)
Mean total delayed recall score at Day 14
14 days after completion of the educational lectures
Resident satisfaction
14 days after completion of the educational lectures
Study Arms (1)
Study group
First-year residents who didn't receive training in Ganzouri or LEMON Airway scoring systems.
Interventions
This scoring system evaluates seven parameters: 1. Mouth opening (interincisor distance) 2. Thyromental distance 3. Mallampati classification 4. Neck movement 5. Ability to prognath (mandibular protrusion) 6. Body weight 7. History of difficult intubation Each parameter was scored, score interpretation from 1- 4 with increasing difficulty , ≥4 suggesting awake intubation.
The LEMON mnemonic represents: 1. Look externally (facial trauma, large incisors, beard, etc.) 2. Evaluate 3-3-2 rule (mouth opening, hyomental distance, thyroidtomouth distance) 3. Mallampati score 4. Obstruction (presence of airway obstruction) 5. Neck mobility
Eligibility Criteria
This study was designed as a prospective observational educational study that compared the recall and perceived clinical applicability of two airway assessment scoring systems: the Ganzouri Airway Score and the LEMON Score
You may qualify if:
- Enrolled anesthesiology residents.
- Currently training at Kasr Al-Ainy Hospitals.
- Willing to participate and provide informed consent.
- Available for entire study duration (baseline through 2-week followup).
- First-year residents who didn't receive training in Ganzouri or LEMON Airway scoring systems.
You may not qualify if:
- Residents with prior formal training in either Ganzouri or LEMON Airway scoring systems (defined as structured lecture or workshop exceeding 30 minutes).
- Residents who will be on leave, rotation at external sites, or otherwise unavailable during the 2-week follow-up period.
- Refusal to participate or provide consent.
