Brief Summary

This study aims to evaluate the effect of a Protection Motivation Theory-based educational intervention on infectious disease perception, risk awareness, and protective health behaviors among adults attending primary care services. Participants will be assigned to an intervention group or a control group. The intervention group will receive a face-to-face educational program based on Protection Motivation Theory, while the control group will continue to receive routine health services without an additional educational intervention during the study period. Outcomes will be assessed at baseline and at Week 4 using validated self-report measures.

Outcome Measures

Primary Outcomes (3)

• Change in Communicable Diseases Risk Awareness and Protection

  Communicable disease risk awareness and protection will be assessed using the Communicable Diseases Risk Awareness and Protection Scale (CDRAPS). The scale consists of 36 items rated on a 5-point Likert scale, with total scores ranging from 36 to 180. Higher scores indicate higher levels of communicable disease risk awareness and protection. Change in total score from baseline to Week 4 will be evaluated.

• Change in Perception Toward Infectious Diseases

  Perception toward infectious diseases will be assessed using the Perception Scale for Infectious Diseases. The scale consists of 34 items rated on a 5-point Likert scale, with total scores ranging from 34 to 170. Higher scores indicate a more positive perception toward infectious diseases. Change in total score from baseline to Week 4 will be evaluated.

• Change in Preventive Health Behaviors for Emerging Infectious Diseases

  Preventive health behaviors will be assessed using the Turkish version of the Emerging Infectious Diseases Preventive Health Behavior Scale (EID-PHB-T-30). The scale consists of 30 items rated on a 5-point Likert scale, with total scores ranging from 30 to 150. Higher scores indicate higher levels of preventive health behaviors against emerging infectious diseases. Change in total score from baseline to Week 4 will be evaluated.

Study Arms (2)

Protection Motivation Theory-Based Education Group

EXPERIMENTAL

Participants in this arm will receive a face-to-face educational program based on Protection Motivation Theory. The program will address infectious disease transmission routes, prevention methods, hand hygiene, mask use, environmental hygiene, maintenance of immunity, risk awareness, and protective health behaviors.

Behavioral: Protection Motivation Theory-Based Educational Program

Control Group

NO INTERVENTION

Participants in this arm will not receive the Protection Motivation Theory-based educational intervention during the study period and will continue to receive routine health services. They will complete the same pretest and posttest assessments as the intervention group.

Interventions

Protection Motivation Theory-Based Educational Program BEHAVIORAL

Participants in the intervention group will receive a face-to-face educational program based on Protection Motivation Theory. The program will cover infectious disease transmission routes, prevention methods, hand hygiene, mask use, environmental hygiene, maintenance of immunity, risk awareness, and protective health behaviors. The intervention is designed to enhance threat appraisal and coping appraisal related to infectious disease prevention and to promote protective health behaviors.

Protection Motivation Theory-Based Education Group

Eligibility Criteria

• Age: 18 Years+
• Sex: all
• Healthy Volunteers: Yes
• Age Groups: Adult (18-64), Older Adult (65+)

You may qualify if:

• Being 18 years of age or older.
• Being registered with and receiving services from the family health center where the study is conducted.
• Being able to communicate in Turkish.
• Voluntarily agreeing to participate in the study.
• Being able to complete the study questionnaires and participate in the educational intervention.

You may not qualify if:

• Having a condition that prevents effective communication or participation in the educational intervention.
• Declining to participate or withdrawing consent at any stage of the study.
• Failing to complete the required pre-intervention or post-intervention assessments.

Model Details: Participants will be assigned to two parallel groups: an intervention group receiving a Protection Motivation Theory-based educational program and a control group receiving routine health services without the additional educational intervention during the study period.
