Brief Summary

The aim of this study is to assess the independent patient-related and surgery-related risk factors associated with the development of incisional hernia following major abdominal surgeries.

  • surgical site infection

    Incidence of surgical site infection following major abdominal surgery, as a risk factor for incisional hernia

    within 10 days after surgery

Study Population

The study will include eligible patients identified from the hospital medical records of the Department of General Surgery, Surgical Oncology and Laparoscopic Surgery at Sohag University Hospital. Patients will be classified into two groups: * Cases: Patients who developed incisional hernia following major abdominal surgery performed during the preceding two years. * Controls: Patients who underwent major abdominal surgery during the same period but did not develop incisional hernia. Controls will be randomly selected from the same source population as the cases using a computer-generated random-number sequence, at a 1:1 ratio to ensure comparability between the two groups.

You may qualify if:

  • Patients aged 18 years or older.
  • patients who underwent major abdominal surgery including both elective and emergency surgeries.
  • Patients with complete medical records and operative data.
  • Patients willing to participate in the study.

You may not qualify if:

  • Patients younger than 18 years.
  • Patients with recurrent incisional hernia.
  • Patients with incomplete medical records or missing data on key study variables.
  • Patients who refused to participate in the study.
