Brief Summary

This randomized controlled experimental study evaluated the effect of a Health Belief Model-based colorectal cancer education, screening, and prevention program among adults aged 50-70 years. A total of 176 participants were randomly assigned to an intervention group or a control group. The intervention group received individual face-to-face education supported by a video and an informational brochure. The control group received no structured education before the immediate post-intervention assessment and was subsequently provided with the brochure. Colorectal cancer knowledge, health beliefs, and attitudes toward cancer screening were assessed before and immediately after the intervention, and screening behavior was evaluated one month later. It was hypothesized that participants receiving the structured educational program would demonstrate greater improvements in colorectal cancer-related knowledge, health beliefs, screening attitudes, and screening uptake than participants in the control group.

Primary Outcomes (1)

• Colorectal Cancer Screening Uptake

  The number and proportion of participants who underwent colorectal cancer screening during the follow-up period were assessed. Screening included fecal occult blood testing or colonoscopy.

Health Belief Model-Based Education

EXPERIMENTAL

Participants received an individual Health Belief Model-based colorectal cancer education program combining face-to-face education, video-based education, and an informational brochure. Colorectal cancer knowledge, health beliefs, and screening attitudes were assessed at baseline and immediately after the education, and screening behavior was evaluated one month later.

Behavioral: Health Belief Model-Based Colorectal Cancer Education Program

Control Group

NO INTERVENTION

Participants received no structured face-to-face or video-based education during the intervention period. They completed the same assessments at baseline and immediately after the intervention period. The informational brochure was provided after the immediate post-intervention assessment

Health Belief Model-Based Colorectal Cancer Education Program BEHAVIORAL

The individual educational program combined face-to-face instruction, video-based educational content, and an informational brochure. It addressed colorectal cancer risk factors, symptoms, prevention, early detection, recommended screening methods, health beliefs, and participation in colorectal cancer screening.

Eligibility Criteria

• Age: 50 Years - 70 Years
• Sex: all
• Healthy Volunteers: Yes
• Age Groups: Adult (18-64), Older Adult (65+)

You may qualify if:

• Aged 50-70 years
• Residing in Bartın city center
• No history of colorectal cancer
• Willing to participate in the study
• Provided written informed consent

You may not qualify if:

• Previous diagnosis of or treatment for colorectal cancer
• Communication difficulties that prevented completion of the questionnaires
• Cognitive impairment that prevented completion of the questionnaires
